In case you’re wondering about the picture, this was taken while driving in Oregon. Eating is something that is important to recovery. And after the surgery, the very act of eating is something that will not be taken for granted ever again!
So, today I am home from the hospital. I am almost fully swollen – this should be the last day of any increase in swelling. There are ice packs which I press against my cheeks almost constantly. Plus, a rinse of saline solution and nose drops to help reduce the nasal passage swelling. Painkillers are still a necessity. I will be sleeping in a sitting up position as well – this will keep the swelling from increasing. Showers twice a day are also recommended to reduce the swelling as well.
My eating is done through a syringe. Rubber bands keep my jaws aligned and in place. This allows movement for eating, but more importantly keeps me from accidentally stretching or biting, which is very important not to do.
Right now I am on very restricted talking, so 99% of my communication will be through the written word. Sleeping is also a good past-time as well.
