Tuesday, July 29, 2008 – Poet Laureate

“But I’m ready to be interrupted,” she says. “ I’m getting tired of myself, tired of inflicting myself on myself. I’m ready to inflict myself on others.”

Kay Ryan, American Poet Laureate

Since Kay Ryan has been named Poet Laureate (can you spell L-A-U-R-E-A-T-E?) there have been a lot of articles buzzing around the internet writing circles.  The Writer’s Digest provided the line to the Time’s story which yielded Kay’s Quote, which is my quote for today.

Turns out that the PL is from California, just north of us.

Anyway, today has been my own little ups and downs.  Got a call from the surgeon who wanted to see me today instead of tomorrow, and as it turns out I will be going back tomorrow again anyway.  It seems that the muscles in my mouth need to be re-trained, in a manner of speaking, for their new position.  The lower jaw was overcorrected, so my rubber bands are now off, and tomorrow the surgeon will see where my jaw parts are naturally gravitating and take it from there.  What a sensation to have those bands off!  With freedom comes responsibility.  But after applesauce (eaten by pushing it in with an espresso spoon), broth through a straw, tea through a straw, vitamins through a straw, and tapioca with the espresso spoon, my jaw is VERY sore.  It is incredibly hard to use a straw.  All that tension.  Hopefully I will be sleeping much better tonight for it.  That’s all for now!
